Quebec reports 17 new deaths from COVID-19

More and more Quebecers with COVID-19 are finding themselves in the hospital, according to the latest government reports, which are getting heavier day by day.

Health authorities reported 2,106 COVID-19-related hospitalizations on Thursday, up 25 from the previous day. Among these patients, 709 are treated specifically for the disease.

Four more people end up in intensive care, for a total of 67, including 35 due to illness.

In addition, more than 4,000 healthcare workers were absent due to illness.

Deaths are piling up, too. Seventeen new people have lost their lives to the disease, including two in the past 24 hours. Ten deaths date back two to seven days, and five more than seven days ago.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 17,514 deaths.

As for infections, the picture is no rosier. The authorities have reported 1,351 new cases, a number that is certainly underestimated due to the screening centers which only receive priority population groups.

According to the ministry, the positivity rate has climbed to 12%.

Quebecers also declared on the government platform on Wednesday 145 new positive cases detected by rapid tests.

As for the vaccination against COVID-19, 17,308 doses were administered to Quebecers.
