The Papier fair becomes Plural

It had already been a few years since it was possible to find at the Papier fair works belonging to other mediums than the one designated by its name. Its next edition will reflect this openness thanks to a new identity: the Papier fair becomes Plural contemporary art fair.

This name change aims, it is explained, to reflect more accurately the plurality of practices represented at the event.

Although attached to the conviviality of its first editions, which allowed many aesthetes to lay the first stones of their collection without bleeding themselves, the Papier fair no longer offered only so-called affordable works, for a little while.

“Now, we have works of museum interest, in large format, the best known artists or the most collected by institutions, we find more and more of them at the fair. Today, Papier really is a good portrait of the excellence of Canadian art,” explained the Executive Director of the Association of Contemporary Art Galleries, Julie Lacroix, during an interview with The Press last August.

Nevertheless, it is promised that Plural, which will bring together more than 40 Canadian galleries under one roof, will remain faithful to its role as a showcase for the general public on the fine flower of contemporary art in the country.

After having had to deal with a calendar disrupted by the pandemic, the fair, whose 15e edition was held last August, will reconnect with spring in 2023, from April 21 to 23, at the Grand Quay of the Port of Montreal.
