The worst is avoided: Caufield will accompany the team to Ottawa

Having failed to finish Monday night’s game against the Calgary Flames, forward Cole Caufield seems to have avoided the worst.

On Tuesday, the Montreal Canadiens announced that their 21-year-old star will accompany the team to Ottawa and should be available for Wednesday’s game against the Senators.

Caufield fell in action when he accidentally came into contact with Trevor Lewis in the second period of the game against the Flames. He fell hard on the ice holding his head. He did not return to the game afterwards, injured in the upper body.

The maverick has hit the target 16 times and provided nine assists for 25 points in 28 games so far in 2022-23.

As for the other injured Habs, Mike Matheson is suffering from a lower body injury and will not make the trip to the federal capital. His case will be assessed on a daily basis.

Defender David Savard and forward Sean Monahan will be out for two to three weeks. They are respectively injured in the upper and lower body.

Moreover, today’s training was optional with the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge and there were few of them on the icy surface of the Bell Sports Complex in Brossard.

Indeed, attackers Michael Pezzetta, Jonathan Drouin and Rem Pitlick, defender Jordan Harris and goalkeeper Samuel Montembeault were the only ones to have responded. The substitute goalkeeper for training Karel St-Laurent was also there.

The Canadian clarified that Drouin is getting closer to a return and continues to be evaluated on a daily basis. Whoever has not played since November 12 will accompany his teammates to Ottawa.
