British Foreign Minister James Cleverly came to the defense of the royal family on Sunday after a racist controversy in Buckingham and the release of the “explosive” Netflix documentary series on Harry and Meghan.
Mr Cleverly claimed on ‘Sky News’ on Sunday that he had not yet watched the documentary ‘Harry & Meghan’, the first three episodes of which have been broadcast since Thursday on the streaming platform. He needs to catch up on the latest episodes of “Stranger Things” first, he claimed.
The early episodes of the documentary mostly focus on media harassment, racial innuendo in the press and online. But the rest of the series, broadcast on Thursday, should discuss in even more detail the lack of support from the “Royals” which the youngest son of King Charles III and his American and mixed-race wife believe have suffered.
Harry and Meghan left the royal family in 2020 and accused the royal family of lack of support and racism in a shock interview on American television last year.
There is no greater supporter of a multicultural UK than Prince Charles, James Cleverly told ‘Sky News’.
“I think the attitude of the royal family towards this country reflects the modern country that we see,” he added.
His reaction, a few days before the release of the last episodes, also comes after a recent racist scandal at Buckingham.
At the head of an association supporting black women victims of domestic violence, Ngozi Fulani had shared at the end of November the remarks deemed racist that had been made to him by Susan Hussey, a close friend of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
Ms. Hussey had resigned in the wake of the controversy of her honorary functions but the association of Ms. Fulani announced on Friday that it had to temporarily cease its activities to protect its teams after “horrible” racist insults online.
