He doesn’t see himself returning to the top of the golf course, not finding such expectations to be realistic.

Woods can anticipate taking part in some tournaments, but not playing the PGA full time.

His interview with Golf Digest, with whom he has a business connection, was released on Monday, ahead of a first press conference since his serious injury to his right leg suffered on February 23 in a road accident, in the suburbs of Los Angeles.

Woods is hosting the Global Hero Challenge, which kicks off Thursday.

“I still have so far to go [en vue d’un retour], said the winner of 15 major tournaments. I’m not even halfway there.

I have a lot of work to do with my leg and the nerves in it. I also had five operations on my back, so that’s part of the equation.

Woods was recovering from back surgery at the time of his accident driving his SUV on his way to a golf course for a TV shoot.

Doctors said he broke bones in the tibia and fibula in his right leg in several places. These were stabilized by a rod in the tibia.

Screws and rods stabilized additional ankle and foot injuries.

Woods won the 2019 Masters Tournament following his fourth back surgery.

Later that year, he tied Sam Snead’s record 82 wins by winning the Zozo Championship, in Japan.

“I don’t have to fight the best in the world to have a great life,” said Woods, who will be inducted into the Golf Hall of Fame in March.

After the operation two years ago, I had to climb Mount Everest. I don’t think I have the physical ability to do it anymore, and that’s okay.

“I can still continue in golf. If my leg regains strength, I can still participate in a tournament here and there.

“But to climb the mountain to the top again, I don’t think it’s realistic to expect that. ”
