World Cup | France eliminates England and will face Morocco in the semi-finals

(Al Khawr) France are back in the semi-finals of the Soccer World Cup after beating England 2-1 on Saturday.

Olivier Giroud broke the deadlock at 78e minute at the Al Bayt stadium to keep France in the running to become the first team since Brazil in 1962 to win back-to-back World Cups.

England striker Harry Kane had a chance to tie the game late in the second half, but sent his penalty over the crossbar.

It was Kane’s second penalty of the game. He had leveled the mark in such a situation at the 54e minute of play.

France took an early lead during the game, when Aurélien Tchouameni unleashed a superb shot that moved the strings in the 17the minute.

In the semi-finals, France will now cross swords with Morocco on Wednesday.

The Moroccans became the first African team to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup, after causing a huge upset by shutting out Portugal 1-0 earlier on Saturday.
