The crisis in the West Indies continues to create a tension that is rarely seen. Martinique and Guadeloupe are at the heart of clashes and excesses. In order to face the situation, Sebastien Lecornu, Minister of Overseas Territories is arrived there to try to restore calm. Jean-Baptiste Marteau, journalist for France Televisions, live from Pointe-à-Pitre (Guadeloupe), tells us more about the first discussions.
“In barely ten minutes, four union representatives quickly emerged from this sub-prefecture of Pointe-à-Pitre”, launches the journalist. the Minister of Overseas Territories asked to condemn clearly the acts of violence that have occurred. A request that resulted in “a categorical refusal of the trade unionists”, he reports. About a hundred are currently “parading under the minister’s windows,” he concludes.
