The beginning of the mandate of Prime Minister François Legault smiles at him, he who sits at the top of the most beloved prime ministers in the country, shows an Angus Reid poll unveiled on Wednesday.
According to the sounding, 57% of Quebecers approve of the work of Mr. Legault, a peak in the country which also reflects a clear rise in public opinion after his unequivocal electoral victory in October.
It is also a peak since June 2021, a time when the Prime Minister was used to maintaining a satisfaction rate easily exceeding 60%. Its popularity then steadily fell with the return of health measures in the fall of 2021, reaching a low of 43% in September 2022.
Ford and Smith far behind
His Ontario counterpart, Doug Ford, is still struggling to seduce voters west of the Ottawa River.
Mr. Ford garners the approval of only 34% of Ontarians against 45% last June, a low that comes after his showdown with school workers. Mr. Ford had considered using the notwithstanding clause to prevent them from starting a national strike, a move that had caused a real political storm in the province and in Ottawa.
For her part, the new premier of Alberta, who pulled off a major coup with the tabling of her Alberta Sovereignty in a United Canada Act just weeks after officially taking over from Jason Kenney , greatly divides in the Prairie Province.
Danielle Smith garners the approval of just 42% of her constituents, a rate dwarfed by the 44% of Albertans who strongly condemn her policies, noted Angus Reid.
The politician will face an important test next spring in the general elections, which will be held in May.
