After hitting an all-time high since the pandemic began last week due to numerous respiratory viruses circulating, the number of students absent from schools across the province is down slightly.
This is what emerges from the most recent assessment of the Ministry of Education, which notes that as of Monday, 11.06% of students in preschool, primary, secondary, vocational training and education adults were not in class.
Last week, it was rather 12.7% of students who were not on the school benches, a proportion never reached in recent years, even at the height of the Omicron wave last winter.
On Monday, there were a total of 137,839 students who were absent. Of these, 14,009 students were absent due to cold or flu symptoms, 933 were absent because they tested positive for COVID-19. For the vast majority, however (122,897), it was an absence for another reason.
