Lithium-ion batteries present in many everyday objects can prove to be very dangerous when they are put in recycling centers.

Found in old electric razors, in computers or even in vacuum cleaners. They are sometimes thrown away without worrying about their destination and the damage they can cause. Lithium-ion batteries can be very dangerous when crushed. They would cause large fires in landfills which recycle metal.

TO Limay (Yvelines), a metal waste recycling site receives more than 1,000 tonnes of material which is placed on a conveyor belt for shredding. However, this activity is very dangerous. A little over a year ago, a violent fire broke out on the site. 67 firefighters were mobilized to overcome it. Same situation, last summer in a shed where the fire ignited the electrical cabinets. The origin of these fires, are lithium batteries present in many everyday objects. When they are crushed they kiss for a very long time.
