Cirque du Soleil will return to Toronto in April 2023 with its show KOOZA. The troupe will pitch its marquee on the site of Mr. Christie’s former factory in Etobicoke, in the west end of the city. Instead, the company wanted to establish a long-term downtown location in Place de l’Ontario, a site similar to Parc Jean-Drapeau, but work on the site prevented it from returning next spring. .
The show KOOZA was presented by Cirque du Soleil for the first time in 2007. Montreal audiences were able to attend the show in May 2022. At the same time, another show, Kyrios, was presented instead of Ontario. In interview with The duty in 2021, then Cirque du Soleil president Daniel Lamarre said he hoped to return to the Queen City on a regular basis.
The circus troupe had hoped to sign a deal to occupy the Ontario Place site long-term, but site revitalization work has prevented the marquee from returning to that location until at least 2023.
In October, the company founded by Guy Laliberté asked for help from the Quebec public relations firm TACT to help it find a new place in the Queen City to set up its marquee.
The presentations of the KOOZA show will take place from April 7 to June 18, 2023.
