Bad weather conditions are causing a lot of headaches for Hydro-Québec on Saturday.
As of 9:31 p.m., the state-owned company said strong winds had caused 348 outages nationwide. It also reported that 54,661 customers were without power.
If the situation seemed to worsen from quarter to quarter of an hour in the early evening, several customers have since seen the power recover, after a peak of around 70,000 customers without electricity was reached. around 19h.
Montérégie and the Laurentians were the regions hardest hit by these power outages. Hydro-Québec recorded 107 outages affecting 22,057 customers in Montérégie and 60 outages affecting 9,240 customers in the Laurentians.
There were 27 outages affecting 3949 customers on the island of Montreal as well as 24 outages affecting 3650 customers in Laval.
In Centre-du-Québec, 4,660 customers were deprived of electricity by 11 blackouts. In Lanaudière, 3,787 customers were affected by 17 outages. In the Outaouais, the number of outages amounted to 41 affecting 2,133 customers. In Estrie, some 4,194 customers are affected by 42 outages.
Hydro-Québec said its teams are working to restore service as quickly as possible.
The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change had forecast that winds would reach 90 km/h in many regions of Quebec.
Around 8 p.m., the wind warning was lifted in the regions of Montreal, Laval, Montérégie and the Laurentians. It nevertheless remained in force in certain sectors of the Capitale-Nationale, Centre-du-Québec, Chaudière-Appalaches and Bas-Saint-Laurent regions.
