A motorist was hit last night on the Ville-Marie highway in Montreal while he was outside his vehicle.
The 22-year-old was hit as he got out of his car. A mechanical breakdown would have forced him to stop near the Cathedral intersection, said Nicolas Scholtus, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
The victim suffered serious injuries and is in critical condition in hospital.
A 31-year-old driver was arrested for driving while impaired by alcohol causing bodily harm. He is due to appear Saturday by videoconference.
Three lanes of the highway were closed eastbound at Saint-Laurent height, before being released around 9:30 a.m.
