Strong gusts that crossed southern and eastern Quebec on Wednesday evening caused power outages
Winds sometimes reaching between 90 and 110 km/h, mixed with rain or snow, were the subject of warnings from Environment Canada.
As of 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, about 45,000 Hydro-Quebec customers were without power, mainly in the Laurentians, Montreal and Montérégie regions.
“The outages are caused by vegetation coming into contact with the network following gusts,” said the state company at the time.
Shortly before 11:00 p.m., virtually all customers in the city had been reconnected, but there were still 33,500 Hydro-Québec customers without power, especially in the Laurentides and Montérégie regions, but also in the Centre-du -Quebec and Bas-Saint-Laurent.
In the Capitale-Nationale and Beauce regions, 30 to 50 millimeters of rain were expected, but the rain was expected to gradually end overnight as windy conditions persist Thursday, according to Environment Canada.
