Beating the “Oursons” in their fortress seems like an impossible task in 2022-2023, they who started the campaign with 13 wins in as many games.
The crowd favorites still got hotter this time around. After 40 minutes they were tied 1-1 with the visitors.
Taylor Hall, however, broke the tie with a power-play goal just under three minutes into the final period. It was also Hall who opened the scoring, just 77 seconds into the first period.
Brad Marchand completed the scoring in an empty net. Goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy will also have very little to blame himself for in the loss, he who blocked 23 of the 25 pucks directed at him.
At the other end of the rink, Jeremy Swayman was almost perfect. He made 27 saves and only yielded on a shot from Steven Stamkos. The latter is therefore only one point away from reaching the 1000 career mark.
Controversial end in Pittsburgh
At PPG Paints Arena, the Carolina Hurricanes took advantage of the confusion following a questionable bodycheck to defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 in overtime.
In extra time, Seth Jarvis checked Bryan Rust from behind, near the boards between the two benches. All the players on the crowd favorite bench then jumped up to ask for a penalty against the Hurricanes. The referees, however, never raised their arm and Brett Pesce took the opportunity to grab the puck and bring himself to two against zero, with Andrei Svechnikov, in front of goalkeeper Tristan Jarry. Pesce handed the puck to his teammate, who returned the favor, before ending the game.
Both Pesce and Svechnikov picked up their second point of the game. The attacker himself shook the ropes in the second period, while the defender had prepared the table for the net of Martin Necas. Sebastian Aho also concluded the duel with two points.
Sidney Crosby also amassed two points in the loss, he who flickered the red light once in addition to being an accomplice to the success of Jake Guentzel.
The Bruins set a league record last Friday by signing a 12th consecutive victory at home. They are now down to 13.
