Marner gets another point

Auston Matthews and William Nylander hit the target within 51 seconds in the first period, Mitch Marner extended his streak to 17 games with at least one point and the Toronto Maple Leafs took the measure of the Detroit Red Wings 4 -2 Monday evening.

Rasmus Sandin scored the other goal for the Maple Leafs, who posted a fourth straight victory – a team high in 2022 – and collected at least one point in the standings in a ninth straight game.

Goaltender Matt Murray also contributed to the Maple Leafs win by stopping 38 shots.

Defenseman Moritz Seider scored the first goal of the game for the Red Wings after a four-shot streak on the Maple Leafs goaltender. But the Red Wings’ lead didn’t last very long.

Matthews beat Ville Husso with a wrist shot a few minutes later, and Nylander broke the tie on a power play midway through the first period.

Marner found the back of the net to extend his scoring streak with at least one point in the first minute of the second period.

The Maple Leafs record for most consecutive games with at least one point is 18. It was set by Darryl Sittler during the 1977-78 season and tied 12 years later by Ed Olczyk.

Sandin gave the Maple Leafs a 4-1 lead midway through the second period, chasing Husso out of the game. The Red Wings goaltender had only received 13 shots.

Adam Erne deflected a Seider shot midway through the third period for the Red Wings’ other goal.
