Switzerland’s Marco Odermatt won the World Cup men’s super-G on Sunday in Lake Louise, Alta.
The defending World Cup champion clocked one minute and 32.53 seconds over the 2.5 kilometer course to win the first super-G event of the season.
“I feel great,” Odermatt said after the competition. It’s a perfect start to the season for me. Got a downhill podium and now a super-G win. »
Norwegian Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, who took the honors in Saturday’s downhill, took second place with a time of 1:32.90.
Austria’s Matthias Mayer, winner of last year’s super-G in Lake Louise, finished in third place with a time of 1:33.31.
Toronto’s James Crawford was the best Canadian of the day. He signed a 10th position. The 25-year-old Canadian, however, does not have a sense of accomplishment.
“I’m disappointed,” Crawford said. I made some stupid mistakes and didn’t execute the game plan well. »
“Skiing is a fast sport, so I’m not worried about the future, but every day you don’t reach the level you are capable of, it’s not very pleasant. »
Three Canadians who started outside the top-30 managed to carve out a place in it, led by Brodie Seger of Whistler in 13th place.
Calgary’s Jeffrey Read was 21st and Brodie Seger’s younger brother Riley was 27th.
After Canada, the skiers head to the United States and Colorado for two runs and a super-G at Beaver Creek next week.
