After a stellar start, Canada lost to Croatia at the FIFA World Cup, with the final score 4-1.
If there is still a match to be played against Morocco on Thursday, Sunday’s defeat means the elimination of the tournament for the maple leaf team, being the only group F to have no points.
The performance remains historic, since Canada scored the first goal in its history at the World Cup. Bayern Munich striker Alphonso Davies opened the scoring in the second minute of the game.
But Croatia redeemed themselves, leading 2-1 at the end of the first half, then increased the deficit by scoring a third goal in the 70th minute, and a fourth in extra time.
