[Critique] “Complete studio recordings 1959-2020”, Hugues Aufray

When Johnny Hallyday landed in 1960, from the height of his 17 years, Hugues Aufray had already passed his thirties: he nevertheless had his place in the famous photo of Hi buddies in 1966, tall and sculpted with an axe, folk champion from Santiano, friend Dylan’s adapter and regular on the pop charts, all at the same time. Her beautiful voice waltzes the anthem Stewballmakes us cherish with him his Celine (the first), greets every “Mister Professor” around the world with the same naturalness as the one he wears on the rogue It’s all good. It would be nice to look for weak times among the 427 titles engraved in six decades, 45 rpm, 33 rpm and digital audio discs gathered here in the admirable collection of complete books from Universal (including rarities and duets, covers and revisits, including a full disc in homage to Félix Leclerc), everything exudes authenticity and everything holds up. What’s more, at 93, the dear Hugues still sings. We are very lucky.
