American rapper Kanye West, mired in a series of controversies, has suggested that he would be a candidate for the presidential election of 2024 and claimed to have offered Donald Trump to be his running mate.
The artist, who goes by the name Ye, posted a series of videos on his Twitter account overnight from Thursday to Friday, along with the “Ye 24” logo.
In one, the 45-year-old rapper reminisces about a conversation he had with former President Donald Trump, who himself announced his candidacy for the 2024 US election.
“I asked him to be my vice president,” Ye said, assuring that Donald Trump “started yelling at him.” The music and fashion troublemaker had already embarked on an unlikely bid for the 2020 US election, garnering only 70,000 votes.
The 45e President of the United States confirmed on Friday that he dined with the rap star at his Florida residence, but assured that the meal was “quick” and “uneventful”.
At the heart of a series of controversies, Ye has been strongly criticized in recent weeks for wearing a t-shirt hijacking the anti-racist slogan “Black Lives Matter” and for posting comments on Instagram and Twitter denounced as anti-Semitic.
His former partner Adidas also announced on Thursday the opening of an investigation after employees of the group accused the rapper of inappropriate sexual behavior and intimidation.
