Opera singer Rose Naggar-Tremblay won the Fernand-Lindsay Career Scholarship. She was chosen unanimously by a jury chaired by Kent Nagano.
The scholarship, worth $50,000, is one of three awards given out by the Fernand-Lindsay Foundation. The other two laureates are Magali Simard-Galdès (Pierre Mantha Scholarship) in contemporary music and Marie Nadeau-Tremblay (Fernand-Lindsay Scholarship) in early music.
The jury highlighted the “creative intelligence” of Rose Naggar-Tremblay, who had a promising start to her career in Europe after taking her first steps at the Atelier lyrique of the Opéra de Montréal and then at the Opéra de Montréal where she notably sang in Rigoletto and The Center.
The Quebec contralto made her European debut last October playing the title role of Carmen at the Opera House in Sofia, Bulgaria. She won first prize in the Enesco Paris competition, as well as the Young Canadian Lyrical Hope scholarship.
