New York Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin seems comfortable when he takes a lot of shots in a game and he’s done something of a feat standing in front of Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers.

In the 4-0 win for his team, the hero of the evening repelled 49 pucks. This is the third highest save total for a successful shutout by the Islanders: only Glenn Healy (51), on January 16, 1990, and Jaroslav Halak (50), on February 15, 2018, have done better. Also, the Russian stopped at least 40 shots in a fourth game this season. He had a 41-save shutout against the New York Rangers on Oct. 26, and defeated the Calgary Flames on Nov. 7 on 46 blocked shots.
With an efficiency rate of .934, it is one of the explanations for the success of his training. The latter occupies the second level of the Metropolitan section with 26 points.
“When you play, you don’t think about the number of shots. I know it’s too much, but it was a good game for me,” Sorokin told NHL.com.
“Now I can feel all crooked the next day, which will be another day,” he added to the Islanders website.
Author of a 12th career brushstroke, the 27-year-old athlete also left McDavid and the Oilers totally dumbfounded.
“You never expect to be the victim of a shutout,” replied the number 97 of Edmonton on the brilliance of the goalkeeper.
“To send 49 throws to someone is that we try to make every game. We did not find a flaw in him, ”added pilot Jay Woodcroft.
The New York club will look to continue their good work by visiting the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday.
