The Plante administration is concerned about the community sector after the sale of several buildings of the Montreal School Service Center (CSSDM) currently rented to such groups.
The Press revealed this morning that the organization intended to sell seven of these “surplus” buildings and hopes to make 28 million from them: “we are not property managers”, explains the CSSDM.
However, the municipal administration fears that the dozens of organizations currently housed in these buildings will be “weakened” or even be forced to close their doors. Monday, she asked Quebec to act to ensure that this is not the case.
“The academic success of our children does not stop at the four walls of a school, argued Laurence Lavigne-Lalonde, Mayor of Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension, before the municipal council.
She pointed out that the community environment also contributes to the objectives of the CSSDM. “If a young person is hungry, if he is experiencing difficulties at home, if the child needs additional care to allow his single mother to finish her shift, if he has problems adapting or if we try to drag him into the cycle of violence, he will not have his head in school. »
“I think I have colleagues all over Montreal who share my stress following this morning’s article,” she added.
The administration’s motion asks the Government of Quebec to ensure that each community organization is relocated before a CSSDM building that houses it is sold.
City Council voted unanimously in favor of the motion.
