Three new Ontario senators named by Justin Trudeau

(OTTAWA) Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Monday the appointment of three new senators to represent Ontario in the upper house. These new arrivals reduce the number of free seats to twelve.

Rear Admiral Rebecca Patterson will join the Senate after serving as one of the most senior officers involved in addressing the sexual misconduct crisis within the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF).

According to the biography provided by the Prime Minister’s Office, Ms.me Patterson is the first trained nurse to lead as a general officer in the CAF.

The DD Sharon Bury comes to the upper house after working as a professor at Western University since 2019, a position she accepted after decades of practice as a pediatrician.

Then, columnist Andrew Cardozo will accompany them after a long career as an expert in public policy. More recently, he served as president of the Pearson Center for Progressive Policy.

These three new senators were recommended by the Independent Advisory Board for Senate Appointments and selected through a merit-based process open to all Canadians.

They will sit as independent senators.
