To deal with the problems with the nursing workforce, the Minister of Health and Social Services, Christian Dubé, thinks he has found a “recipe” which will make “a difference” and which requires the decompartmentalization of professions and the local time management.
The minister also claims to bet less than during the last negotiation on the creation of full-time positions for nurses. He says he has “heard the message very well” from the nurses in the establishments who also want part-time positions to facilitate work-family balance and have a reasonable task.
Minister Dubé made the comments Monday while attending the convention of the Order of Nurses of Quebec in Montreal.
For his part, the president of the Order, Luc Mathieu, also said he believed that everything depended on how the full-time positions were modulated, since they can be over four days, for example.
As for the decompartmentalization of professions, the Minister cited the case of paramedics, where Quebec has a lot to do in this area.
