[Critique] “Milk Run”, Justin Laramée

Inspired by I love Hydro, Christine Beaulieu’s theatrical documentary about hydroelectricity, Justin Laramée explores a no less identity subject: dairy production. Through his meetings with producers, small and large, farmers and industrialists, but also with processors and ministers, the creator paints a detailed portrait of the most important agri-food sector in Quebec. Crucial issues are addressed, such as supply management or the famous class 7 concerning diafiltered milk, but also the psychological distress of producers, the environmental impact and animal welfare. It is often funny, sometimes poignant, and always very instructive. “Dairy industry players have everything in their hands to improve the current system… […] The solutions exist, others are on the way. For me, my role as an artist, as a citizen, ends here. Created in Quebec last March, the play for two actors and four voices will be presented at La Licorne from November 22 to December 21, then on tour across the province in 2023.
