QS urges the CAQ to solve the shortage of medicines for children

Québec solidaire urges the government of François Legault to resolve the shortage of medicines for children as quickly as possible and reiterates its proposal for a Pharma-Québec as a long-term solution.

In recent times, the shortage of drugs, including Tylenol for children, has peaked to the point where the government of Justin Trudeau has turned abroad in order to have some.

“The CAQ cannot be content to watch Ottawa fly to its rescue while remaining idly by,” said solidarity deputy Vincent Marissal on Thursday. This is not a long-term solution and it is the responsibility of Quebec to take charge of the health of Quebecers.

The MNA for Rosemont challenges the Minister of Health Christian Dubé and recalls that the CAQ government had granted, last June, a loan of $ 25 million to the pharmaceutical company Jubilant HollisterStier to increase its capacity at its Montreal plant.

But beyond these levers available to Quebec, the left-wing political party believes that the long-term solution lies in the creation of Pharma-Quebec, an old QS proposal that would prevent stockouts.

“If we had had Pharma-Québec at our disposal, we would have been able to quickly produce or acquire generic drugs at low cost, here in Quebec,” said Mr. Marissal.
