Montreal Canadiens assistant general manager Marc Bergevin, Scott Mellanby, resigned from his post on Saturday.
According to journalist Jean-François Chaumont from Journal of Montreal, it is therefore an amicable separation between the two parties, united since May 2012. At the time, the former player of the National Hockey League had come to Montreal as director of the player staff.
A little over two years later, more precisely in July 2014, he was promoted to the post he had just left.
Mellanby ended his playing career at the end of the 2006-2007 season, having amassed 840 points in 1,431 games. He then joined the Vancouver Canucks as a professional recruiter on a three-season journey before joining the Blues as an assistant coach for two seasons.

The Montreal Canadiens have reportedly obtained permission to speak with former New York Rangers general manager Jeff Gorton, who has been free as the air since May.
Sportsnet reporter Elliotte Friedman reported on Saturday that the Habs do not intend to offer the GM position to Gorton, but another role. Marc Bergevin, whose contract will expire at the end of the campaign, is the current manager of CH hockey operations.
The 53-year-old was sacked by Blueshirts owner James Dolan because of the team’s setbacks. Gorton was then in a troubled period of his career, he who had to deal with the Tony DeAngelo file and who had also called for the resignation of the Disciplinary Prefect of the National Hockey League, George Parros.
Gorton has held various positions within the Ranger organization, starting as a scout in 2007-2008. He previously worked with the Boston Bruins between 1994 and 2007, primarily as scouting director and assistant general manager.
