Where did the jewelry of Kim Kardashian, victim of a robbery in Paris on the night of October 2 to 3, 2016, go? In her hotel room were snatched the ring from her engagement with her ex-husband Kanye West (4 million euros alone), Cartier diamonds, gold bracelets, luxury watches… Even if a necklace with a diamond cross was misplaced by criminals and that the other pieces are difficult to sell, because they are very recognizable, the proceeds of their sale are estimated between 1 and 2 million euros.
Two months after the robbery, the investigators are in hiding. In their sights, suspects, most of whom are of retirement age. On December 5, they spot four of their “old acquaintances” seated on the terrace of a bar in the 12th arrondissement of Paris. Around Aomar Aït Khedache, known as “Omar the Old”, suspected by the police of being the mastermind of the robbery, three other suspects. He would have promised them that they would receive their share of the loot before the holiday season. The following days, the police noticed a certain commotion and saw parcels passing, notably in the hands of Yunice Abbas.
“For me it was just a down payment [ces 70 000 euros]I was waiting for the sequel”
This sixty-year-old suspect, also convicted of drug trafficking, wrote a book with the explicit title: I kidnapped Kim Kardashian (editions of the Archipelago). Yunice Abbas did not wish to grant an interview to the journalists of “Sensitive Affairs”. Recorded without his knowledge on the telephone, he claims to have received the sum of 70,000 euros. Too little, according to him, in view of the risks he would have taken. For him, “it was just a down payment“, “things had to happen at least at 100,000 euros“and it would have been”fucked“.
After Christmas, investigators are confident that everyone has been paid. So on January 9, 2017, three months after the robbery, they arrested no less than seventeen individuals. At their homes, the police found no trace of the jewelry, but they got their hands on weapons and the sum of around 300,000 euros in small bills. Far from what the sale of Kim Kardashian’s necklaces, watches and bracelets could have brought in…
“It’s true that it’s too much for me, that’s for sure”
Twelve people are indicted in this case. Aomar Aït Khedache, Didier Dubreucq and Yunice Abbas, suspected of being the three men on bicycles, are accused of organized gang robbery with a weapon and kidnapping. Marceau Baum-Gertner, a colorful character also known to the police, is accused of concealment.
Yunice Abbas, who has already spent two years in pre-trial detention in this case, is impatiently awaiting the trial to finally be “discarded”. “That thing”, “the shot too many” for him, don’t let him “only regrets”. Marceau Baum-Gertner, who is speaking here for the first time, says he also regrets having met “Omar the Elder”… All four face ten years in prison. Presumed innocent, they will be tried before the Paris Assize Court in a trial which should take place at the end of 2023. No one knows if Kim Kardashian will attend…
