(Philadelphia) It won’t be a perfect season for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Methodical and opportunistic, the Washington Commanders won 32-21 on Monday, inflicting the Eagles their first loss in nine games.
Philadelphia was 8-0 for the first time in franchise history.
The only clean season in NFL history came in 1972, when the Miami Dolphins went 17-0.
The Patriots came close in 2007 by losing the Super Bowl after 18 straight wins.
The Eagles were down at the half for the first time this season.
Late in the final quarter, with the Commanders up 26-21, Jalen Hurts joined Quez Watkins for 51 yards, but Watkins then lost the ball.
It was the third turnover of the game for the Eagles, who had only suffered three in their first eight games.
The team’s other blunders came from AJ Brown and Dallas Goedert.
Taylor Heinicke completed 17 of 29 passes for 229 yards.
Terry McLaurin had 128 receiving yards, including a 41-yard catch that led to one of Joey Slye’s four field goals.
Hurts had 174 passing yards.
On the Washington side, Montrealer Benjamin St-Juste got six solo tackles.
The Commanders (5-5) have lost only once in their last five games.
The club will play again on Sunday in Houston.
The Eagles will then be in action in Indianapolis.
