The Basque Country is multi-cultural, and Sonakay has highlighted a little-known component of the territory, the gypsies, “ijitoak”, who have lived there for centuries, who have integrated there and speak Basque.
Their musical project is to mix the two cultures, Basque and gypsy, and to give concerts with their repertoire.
Sonakay made a name for himself in Spain by participating in the television show Got Talent, in 2018, qualifying until the final.
Then they started to give concerts, with classic Basque covers – Mikel Laboa, Urko, Xabier Lete, Benito Lertxundi… -, which achieved great popular success.
“Izarrak”, Sonakay’s first unreleased track
In 2019, Sonakay composes the title “Izarrak”, in collaboration with Iker Lauroba, musician from Donostia.
In this song, they declare their love to their culture of origin, gypsy, and to that of the place where they like to live, the Basque Country.
Since its creation, Sonakay has released 3 albums: “Sonakay Denonzat” in 2018, “Sonakay Guztiekin” in 2020 and “Suerte”, in 2022.
