Will Antoine Dupont keep his crown? The Stade Toulousain scrum-half is again one of the nominees for the player of the year award. Antoine Dupont was already crowned last year, in 2021. The reward will be awarded this Sunday by World Rugby, the world federation.
The favorite Toulouse
The captain of the Blues will have three competitors facing him: the South African center three-quarter Lukhanyo Am, as well as two Irishmen, the third line Josh van der Flier and the opening half Johnny Sexton, who had already won the award in 2018. But Antoine Dupont is a figure of favourite. Before him, two other French people were awarded the title of best player in the world: the former scrum half and current coach Fabien Galthié, in 2002and the former third line Thierry Dusautoir, in 2011.
Only New Zealanders Dan Carter (2005, 2012, 2015), Richie McCaw (2006, 2009, 2010), and Beauden Barrett (2016, 2017) have been so far.
A jury of former internationals
The best player in the world of the year 2022 will be chosen by a jury made up of former international players. His name will be revealed this Sunday at a ceremony in Monaco. Several other prizes will be awarded, including that of coach of the year, for which the tricolor coach Fabien Galthie had been named. The back of Stade Toulousain Angel Capuozzo is nominated for the title of male revelation. Among women, the Toulouse Laura Sansus is nominated for the title of player of the year.
