A shock that pschitt. On paper, the opening match of the 15th day of Ligue 1, between Lyon and Nice, Friday November 11, had everything to please. But the promises were not kept, far from it. At the end of a very sad evening, Lyon and Nice left with a draw, thanks to penalties from Nicolas Pépé (38th) and Alexandre Lacazette (89th). The show was provided in the stands, where the Bad Gones, the main group of Lyon supporters, celebrated their 35th anniversary in style. On Lyon’s equalizer, even before converting the penalty, the North bend literally caught fire. The only fireworks of the evening.
On the lawn, Nicolas Pépé’s penalty at the end of the first period – withdrawn after Lopes’ initial stoppage, which was too advanced – was the first shot on target of the match. This is to say the poverty of the first act, between apathetic Lyonnais and Niçois without great ambitions, but who could have doubled the bet just before the break by Youcef Atal.
We could have expected a burst from Lyon in the second half: nay. OL’s first real chance was a blocked shot from Tagliafico, which hit the post. Dembélé then framed a header from a corner, too soft to shake Schmeichel (85th). And that’s about it. But a penalty generously awarded to Lacazette, who seemed out of balance before contact with the defender, allowed the Lyon captain to equalise. And save the furniture. Laurent Blanc will have work during the break.
