“With the worrying rise in cases of respiratory viruses in children and the overflow of pediatric emergencies, the College of Physicians again recommends the wearing of masks in public places in order to protect themselves and others”, can we read in the chirp.
In the same row, the College recalled “the importance for everyone to renew their vaccination protection”.
In a poll conducted in October, the Institut national de santé publique du Québec (INSPQ) noted that only between 21% and 28% of respondents said they always or often wear a mask in public places, such as at work or in a trade.
However, 81% of them judged the wearing of a mask in public places as “fairly effective” or “very effective” in preventing COVID-19.
In Ontario, Premier Doug Ford encouraged people to wear masks on Sunday, but did not make it mandatory. Children’s hospitals across the province are currently dealing with an unprecedented surge of very sick children.
“Wear a mask as much as possible,” Ford said during a speech at a Toronto gas station. He also urged members of the public to get their flu shots and not miss their COVID-19 booster doses.
More details to come.
