A public holiday, but less and less non-working: this Friday, November 11, many shops in Rennes will be open. “We did a little investigation”explains Laurence Taillandier, owner of the Optique Taillandier boutique and president of the “Carré Rennais” merchants’ association. on France Bleu Armorique.
“A very large number of stores remain open, including the so-called “locomotives”, such as large clothing stores.”
Open Sundays before Christmas
The trend is more and more marked. “This day, which was previously a holiday and a day off, is less and less so among traders”, observes Laurence Taillandier. “It allows in particular those who do not work, and who usually work on Saturdays, to come and see us”.
“It’s very important to be open on weekends, and especially a long weekend, and to have a wide opening range”, adds Laurence Taillandier. “This will also be the case on the Sundays before Christmas”. For the shopkeeper, the shops in the city center do not suffer from competition from shopping centres. “We don’t come looking for the same thing”she notes.
Other good news, the opening of metro line B is already producing effects.
“We feel the difference, people arrive from Saint-Germain for example, or by different streets, and therefore pass in front of shops so far perhaps less exposed”.
