in Corsica 4.3% of pupils affected by the scourge

This Thursday, November 10, national day against school bullying, many operations were carried out in schools, colleges and high schools. In Corsica, 4.3% of pupils are affected by this scourge. Even if the figure is lower than on the mainland, where they are 9.9%, the mobilization is growing year by year on the island.

Associations, rectorate and heads of establishments carry out numerous awareness-raising actions. They were gathered this Thursday in front of the thirty students of a 6th grade class from the Fesch college, in Ajaccio. After watching a few scenes from a comedy on bullying, the teenagers debate. Some, usually shy, say they have experienced harassment themselves.

For the deputy headmaster of the establishment, it is already a small victory. In National Education for more than 20 years, Thierry Le Gall notes that the acts of harassment, which have always existed, are increasing and worsening since the appearance of social networks. One of the next steps will therefore be to raise parents’ awareness of cyberbullying: “children are free on the devices. These are things that can completely escape parents”.

The Jean Toussaint Association

Also present in several classes in Ajaccio this Thursday, Nathalie Santoni hopes to reach as many teenagers as possible through her testimony. In December 2017, his son Jean-Toussaint committed suicide. The 15-year-old was being harassed at the agricultural school in Sartène. To keep the promise made to her son, she created the Jean-Toussaint association and carries out numerous awareness-raising actions.

“We have to solve this problem”, insists Nathalie Santoni, always surprised by what some students explain in the classes where she travels. “Speak, speak!”, does she insist each time to the teenagers with hope “if not to save the world, to save a few”.

Many control devices

The various actors recall that, if they do not dare to speak to their parents or teachers, young people can call 3020 free of charge if they are being bullied at school, or 3018 if it is cyber-bullying. There is also a mobile application, named 3018, available on iOS
and Android.
Devices also open to parents, education professionals, or even witnesses.
