Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane left the game early in the second period in the Alberta side’s 3-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday night after he was cut in the left wrist by a skate blade.

Oilers officials said Kane was taken to a hospital in stable condition. He was due to undergo a medical procedure on Tuesday evening.

Kane was battling with Lightning defenseman Philippe Myers just inside the Oilers’ defensive zone, and while on the ice he was cut by the skate blade of forward Pat Maroon, Lightning.

The incident happened at 3:27 of the second period.

Kane grabbed the lacerated area with his right hand and quickly skated to the players’ bench before heading for the locker room.

The Oilers, who had lost three straight, were able to count on a one-goal performance and an assist from Connor McDavid.

The Oilers captain (9 goals, 19 points) has at least one point in each of his team’s last eight games. He has 14 goals in 14 games so far.

Golden Knights beat Maple Leafs in overtime

Reilly Smith scored his second goal of the game 23 seconds into overtime as the Vegas Golden Knights posted their eighth straight victory, 4-3 over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday night.

Jack Eichel and Nicolas Roy were the other scorers for the Golden Knights (12-2-0). William Karlsson added two assists, and goaltender Logan Thompson saved 28 pucks.

Timothy Liljegren scored his first two goals of the season for the Maple Leafs (7-4-3), who had won their previous three games. Mitch Marner had a goal and an assist and goaltender Erik Kallgren made 16 saves.

Nico Hischier hit the target with 8:10 left in the third period and the New Jersey Devils earned their seventh straight win, 3-2 over the Calgary Flames.

Dougie Hamilton and Ryan Graves also scored for the Devils, who tied their longest winning streak since February 2011.

Vitek Vanecek blocked 33 shots and helped the Devils overcome a lackluster performance as they returned home after a three-game trip to Western Canada.

Bo Horvat had two goals as the Vancouver Canucks won 6-4 over the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday.

After a goal late in the first period, Horvat broke the tie 2-2 at 1:16 in the third period, earning his 12e goal of the season.
