Jimmy Kimmel will once again host the Oscars, completing a trilogy that began with the chaotic ceremony where the wrong envelope was read during the best picture presentation.

The late-night talk show host will host the ceremony in March, the show’s producers announced Monday.

Producers Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner said they were thrilled with Kimmel’s return, saying he’s sure to be “funny and up for anything.”

Jimmy Kimmel has hosted the show twice, including in 2017, when Bad Feature was crowned Best Picture. The following year, the ceremony was held a few months after the outbreak of the #metoo (#me too) movement.

In a statement, the host said it was a “great honor or a trap”. He thanked the academy for asking him “so quickly after everyone said no”.

After the 90e Oscars ceremony in 2018, which drew positive reviews to Kimmel, the Oscars had gone ahead without a host until the 94e ceremony earlier this year, which was hosted by Regina Hall, Amy Schumer and Wanda Sykes.

“Jimmy is the perfect host to help us recognize the incredible artists and films from our 95are Oscars,” said Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President and CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang.

“His love of cinema, his expertise in live television and his ability to connect with our global audience will create an unforgettable experience for our millions of viewers around the world. »

Molly McNearney, co-writer and producer of Jimmy Kimmel Live! who is married to Kimmel, will also serve as broadcast producer for the Oscars.

Ratings were on a rollercoaster ride for the prestigious Hollywood awards show. The 94are Oscars was an improvement with 15.36 million viewers, but that was off the previous year’s record low, which hit many galas altered by COVID-19.

The 95e The Academy Awards will take place on Sunday, March 12 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles and will be broadcast live on the ABC network.
