Celebrated on November 1, World Veganism Day kicks off World Veganism Month. The goal? Bring people together and encourage them to follow, step by step, a healthy lifestyle for the planet, animals and health.
The eating habits of the French are changing and this day is taking on an increasingly significant dimension, especially since environmental and animal issues are omnipresent in our society.
With a way of life in their own right, vegans refuse any exploitation, suffering or cruelty towards animals and do not consume any animal products. They also exclude the fact of wearing fur, leather, silk or even wool and do not use products tested on animals. In addition, it is also out of the question for them to go to places where animals are exploited, such as circuses, zoos, aquariums…

What do vegans eat?
Contrary to what many people think, vegans eat a decent diet and eat lots of good things. Here are the foods that are on their plate:
Vegetables and fruits (nuts)
The vegan diet is based on plants. These contain lots of vitamins, fiber, antioxidants, potassium and magnesium. It is therefore perfect for health and feeling fit.
soy products
We can then cite tofu or tempeh which are rich in protein. It is these products that replace meat.
Legumes, cereals and seeds
The ideal is to mix legumes (lentils, chickpeas, beans…) and cereals (wheat, barley, spelled, quinoa…) in order to have a good supply of amino acids.
Veganism in a few figures
In a context of attention paid to the limitation of meat consumption and increased awareness of animal welfare, vegan food tends to develop.
- If the entire world population became vegan, 8 million lives could be saved (according to a study published in the journal PNAS).
- Over the past ten years, meat consumption has fallen by around 12% in France (according to a Crédoc study).
- Worldwide, more than 5% of the population is vegetarian or vegan (according to an OpinionWay survey)
