In Zanzibar, the main attraction is undoubtedly the Indian Ocean. Its translucent water and white sand beaches attract many people. But what happens below the surface of the water attracts even more. Zanzibar’s coral reef has over 500 marine species. Zanzibar’s superstar is the dolphin. thousands of dolphins live there and come every day to play with the boats. Two American families have chosen this playground for their first dive. “To see it with my own eyes is going to be fantastic”rejoices a tourist.
“The dolphins are very friendly. (…) We are very proud of the dolphins here”says Abdul Ramadandive master at One Ocean Zanzibar. Spinner dolphins are famous for their underwater acrobatics. David Von Helldorfffounder of Mafia Island divinghas never tired of the underwater landscape since settling on the archipelago in 2012. “On every dive there is always something new to see”he said. Yet the corals are dying off due to climate change and mass tourism. Thus, Simon Delmas, director of Dive Point Zanzibar, built an underwater nursery to save the fragile corals.
