On the flowery coast, the town of Villerville (Calvados) became Tigreville again this weekend of October 28-29. The city celebrates the 60th anniversary of the release of Henri Verneuil’s cult film, “Un Singe en hiver” (1962), filmed in Villerville itself, named Tigreville, with Jean-Paul Belmondo and Jean Gabin on screen.
A film forever linked to the history of Villerville and its inhabitants, and in particular at the Norman Cabaret, in the heart of the town. This is where several scenes of the film were shot. “It’s very moving to be there, seated where Belmondo and Gabin were“, smiles Bruno, an absolute fan of “Monkey in Winter”. The wooded walls, the red and white checkered curtains: “Everything stayed in its own juice and it’s great!“said Bruno.
The Norman Cabaret is due to reopen soon
A glass of Picon-bière in hand, like Jean-Paul Belmondo in the filmBernard remembers:I discovered this film when I was young and I learned about ten years ago that it had been shot here in Villerville, so I went there… When you love this film, you cannot to be touched, moved to be here!“
Régine has even had the chance to attend the filming of the film in front of the Norman Cabaret, she was nine years old at the time. “It’s a memory I will never forget! With all the children, as soon as school was over, we rushed to the filming location, we were completely amazed! Jean-Paul Belmondo was adorable.”
The Cabaret Normand was recently acquired and its owners plan to reopen it soon. Proof that the enthusiasm around the film is not ready to fall.
