The incident occurred around 8:45 p.m., on the Cégep de Saint-Hyacinthe football field, during a game between the Noir et Or de Salaberry-de-Valleyfield and the local Lauréats team.

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) was called to intervene after the father, dissatisfied with a decision, physically attacked a referee. The two men were arrested, questioned, and then released on conditions.

The file has been transferred to the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions (DPCP) who will then decide whether charges should be brought, said SQ spokeswoman Béatrice Dorsainville.

Unfortunately, this is not the first event where a referee has been assaulted in the context of a sporting event this year in Quebec.

On May 7, a young referee was also assaulted by a spectator during a soccer match between two teams of amateur players under the age of 14 in Dollard-des-Ormeaux, in the West Island of Montreal. .

Two months earlier, another 15-year-old referee had also been violently attacked by a 16-year-old player at the very end of a hockey game at the Coaticook arena.
