Quebecer Félix Auger-Aliassime defeated Kazakh Alexander Bublik 6-2, 6-3 on Friday to reach the semi-finals of the Basel tennis tournament.
Auger-Aliassime, seeded third, broke his rival’s serve in the first game of the match and easily won the first set.
Bblik, 38e world racket, offered better opposition in the second set, but eventually gave up after an hour and 11 minutes.
Auger-Aliassime thus won an 11e game in a row, he who triumphed in Florence and Antwerp in his two previous tournaments.
The Canadian had 10 aces and didn’t give Bublik a break point. Auger-Aliassime hammered 28 winners against only four unforced errors.
In the semi-finals on Saturday, Auger-Aliassime will cross swords with the winner of the duel between favorite Carlos Alcaraz and fellow Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta.
