The first stop must take place at a lithium recycling plant in Anjou. Canada’s Critical Minerals Strategy predicts a sharp increase in demand for this material, which is used in cell phone and electric vehicle batteries, among others.

Two other stops are planned at the Jean-Talon Market, in Little Italy, and at the Biosphere, an environmental museum located in the former American pavilion of Expo 67, on Île Sainte-Hélène.

Thursday in Ottawa, where Mr. Blinken first went for his first official visit to the country as Secretary of State, the humanitarian crisis in Haiti was one of the main topics on the agenda.

At the end of this meeting, Mr.me Joly said that Canada, which is under pressure from the United States to lead a possible international intervention force in Haiti, considers it important above all to make “a good assessment of the situation on the ground “.

At his side, Secretary of State Blinken maintained that the situation is “unsustainable” in Haiti and he praised the “leadership of Canada” to obtain a common front at the United Nations in order to strengthen the security of citizens.

More details to come.
