is the State’s boost to businesses sufficient?

Faced with soaring energy prices, the government has announced new protective measures for businesses and communities. But this helping hand is not enough to reassure VSEs and SMEs.

Benoît Cochelin, a baker in Boulogne-Billancourt (Hauts-de-Seine), was waiting for a boost from the state to pay his skyrocketing electricity bill. And the rising bill starts with the fridge. “We use it to store our pastries, our pastries. It cost us 500 euros per month, now it will cost us 2,500 euros per month”, laments the craftsman, Thursday, October 27. And there is also the oven and the light. In October, it will therefore go from 2,000 to 10,000 euros of electricity per month.

Benoît’s bakery, like SMEs with fewer than 250 employees, will benefit from state support. But on the bill, only the electricity exchanged on the markets by the energy suppliers will be taken into account. The aid, at a maximum of 120 euros per MWh, will only cover 10% of Benoît’s bill. A figure very far from what he expected. This help, “the electricity damper”will come into force on January 1, 2023 and will be automatically deducted from invoices.
