Laval Federal Training Center | At least 19 inmates positive for COVID-19

(Laval) At least 19 inmates at the Federal Training Center, a minimum-security unit located in Laval, have tested positive for COVID-19.

Posted yesterday at 7:42 p.m.

This was reported by the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) in a press release issued late Wednesday afternoon.

The number of active cases among inmates at this facility is based on rapid drug tests or PCR tests.

“The number could change as new tests are performed and lab-confirmed results become available,” the statement said.

The CSC indicates that measures have been put in place to try to limit the spread of COVID-19 within the walls of this establishment located on the north shore of Montreal.

“The health and safety of our employees, offenders and the public remain a top priority,” CSC said in the statement.

Staff at the Federal Training Center in Laval are provided with personal protective equipment (PPE), such as gloves, medical masks, respirators and face shields if necessary.

“All inmates are provided with medical masks and are encouraged to wear them at all times when not in their cells. Cleaning and disinfection of the entire site continues, ”says the CSC.

In addition, CSC has been vaccinating inmates since January 2021 in all correctional facilities it oversees.
