We remember torrential rains that fell on Bourges
, the evening of the Music Festival. They did great damage: thousands of hailstone impacts on the roof of the Pavillon d’Auron. Over the weeks, the temporary tarpaulins ended up letting the water through, despite the recurring interventions of a company to make temporary repairs.
These temporary solutions lasted until weekend of October 22 and 23, when the Japan Pop show took place in the building, which is part of the Rives d’Auron complex. But the event was held under difficult conditions. “It was sunnysays Patrick Ponchon, director of Jeanne and Louis Productions, a company that operates the city’s exhibition centre. There was room to be able to move the stands in the middle of about fifty basins, there was water dripping, we kept mopping up. But if it had rained, the demonstration could not have taken place until the end”.
Faced with this situation, we had to face the facts. The town hall announced, this Wednesday, October 26, the emergency closure of the Pavillon d’Auron. “It was not fun to host public events in a building that takes water from everywhere”believes Patrick Ponchon. “This observation led the City to decide to close the building in order to launch the refurbishment of the waterproofing and roofing of the Auron pavilion”adds the municipality in a press release.
The Wine and Gastronomy Fair is canceled
Consequence of these major works: the cancellation of the Wine and Gastronomy Fair, which was to take place from November 4 to 6. 12,000 visitors were expected. “It’s a blow for us, for the exhibitors and for all Berruyers”, reacts Patrick Ponchon, whose company is organizing the event. The 120 exhibitors will be reimbursed and the organizers will look into the organization of the 2023 edition, which should take place in the fall, as usual.
The work will start very quickly: the materials will be ordered next week. Given the urgent nature of these repairs, the municipality launched a market procedure without competition. The work on the Pavillon d’Auron should be completed in March 2023.
