Conor Sheary, Garnet Hathaway and Nick Jensen all had a goal and an assist as the Washington Capitals defeated the New Jersey Devils 6-3 on Monday night.

Nic Dowd and Aliaksei Protas also scored for the Capitals, which posted a second straight win.

The Washington squad was greatly helped by the brilliance of Charlie Lindgren, who blocked 38 pucks for a first victory this season.

Nathan Bastian, Tomas Tatar and Jesper Bratt all scored their first goals of the campaign for the Devils.

Mackenzie Blackwood started the game for the home team and gave up five times on 18 shots. In relief, Vitek Vanecek allowed one goal on four shots.

Brady Tkachuk had a goal and an assist, Shane Pinto scored in a fifth straight game and the Ottawa Senators defeated the Dallas Stars 4-2 on Monday night.

Playing without forward Josh Norris and goaltender Anton Forsberg, both injured, the Senators allowed Derick Brassard and Magnus Hellberg to make their debuts this season.

Hellberg stopped 30 of 32 pucks aimed at him as Brassard moved the ropes in the third period.

Brassard snatched the puck from a defenseman on the blue line and raced up the rink before beating Scott Wedgewood to make it 4-1 with 8:30 left in the game.

Tkachuk gave the Senators a 2-1 lead in the fifth minute of the final period before Pinto extended the lead to 3-1.

Thomas Chabot also hit the target for the Senators, who posted a fourth straight win while inflicting the Stars’ first regulation-time loss this season.

Joel Kivirianta and Wyatt Johnston replied for the Dallas squad, which had the first eight shots of the game to test Hellberg, who had only made two NHL starts prior to Monday night.

Wedgewood stopped the first 22 shots he faced and finished the game with 28 saves for the visitors.
