Titled in Florence last week, Félix Auger-Aliassime did it again at the ATP 250 tournament in Antwerp by dominating Sebastian Korda in the final, 6-3, 6-4, on Sunday.
Thanks to his good week on the Belgian hard surface, the Canadian will climb to 9th place in the ATP ranking on Monday and took an option in the race for qualification for the Turin Masters (November 13 to 20).
After losing in his first eight finals, Auger-Aliassime won three titles this year. The 22-year-old right-hander lifted his first trophy in Rotterdam in February.
The protege of Toni Nadal, the uncle of “Rafa”, still relied on his powerful service to stifle Korda (36th player in the world). The American never managed to break Auger-Aliassime, who had already been sovereign during his service games against Richard Gasquet in the semi-finals.
The Quebecer scored seven aces and was solid behind his first ball. In the second set, he pushed the aggressiveness slider to save the only two break points conceded to his opponent.
While the winner of the day is riding an eight-game winning streak, Sebastian Korda loses a second final this month, a week after his failure against Andrey Rublev in Gijon.
