The mild temperatures in the middle of the All Saints holidays would make you forget that we are in autumn. However, after the drought and the heat waves, it is enough to observe the trees with particularly intense colors this year.
As if by magic, the trees are gradually taking on their autumn color at the arboretum of Crozant (Dig). “The changes of color, spring, summer, autumn, in the maples of Japan, it’s extraordinary”marvels a woman. For six years, Annick has traveled 400km to discover this season at the arboretum, a show always renewed. “It really is a magical place”, says Annick hatatloyal to the arboretum of the Sedel.
A different magic each autumn and yet, at the origin of these warm colors, there is always the same alchemy. “When autumn arrives, the length of the day decreases. The tree no longer synthesizes chlorophyll, the green disappears and suddenly, we have the appearance of the other pigments which are present in the leaf”, explains a guide. This year, the season promises to be exceptional, in particular because of the summer drought and then the frosts triggered earlier during a few nights in September.
